Everton Keen to Sign Neal Maupay

Neal Maupay

Everton are keen to sign Brighton & Hove Albion striker Neal Maupay, according to Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports.

Maupay has made a strong start to the season, scoring two goals in his first two Premier League games. However, Everton need to sell in order to bring in more players due to financial fair play rules.

Director of football, Marcel Brands is said to be listening to offers for James Rodriguez, Fabian Delph, Cenk Tosun, and Moise Kean.

Difficult Transfer Window for Everton

It has been a difficult transfer window for Everton. So far, Andros Townsend, Andy Lonergan and Asmir Begovic have joined on free transfers. The only money spent has been £1.7 million for winger Demarai Gray from Bayer Leverkusen.

Everton do need more attacking support to help Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with the Brazilian having had a busy summer at the Copa America and the Olympics with his national side. However, Maupay is likely to cost over £30 million and Brighton are under no pressure to sell, given his contract runs to June 2023.

The 25-year-old joined Brighton from Brentford for £20 million in 2019. He has made 72 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 20 goals, and has already scored twice in two Premier League games this season.

It is easy to see why Everton would be interested as Maupay would be a good option to have alongside Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin. However, whether Maupay would want to leave Brighton for a bit-part role at Everton appears unlikely. Marseille are also interested in the striker and may be a more attractive proposition for him.

Other Everton Transfer News

Burnley winger Dwight McNeil is also interesting Everton. However, they face competition from Aston Villa for his signature.

Before they can make any additions, they need to sell players. The likes of Jonjoe Kenny, Mason Holgate and Jarrad Branthwaite are also players Everton will listen to offers for. However, time is running out with the transfer window deadline only a few days away and the pressure on Brands is on to deliver the targets that Rafa Benitez is looking for.
