The Achraf Hakimi Replacement
Denzel Dumfries arrives in Milan as the replacement for Achraf Hakimi. The Dutch international has signed a four-year contract with the club that will see him stay at the San Siro until 2025. The transfer fee for the right-back is still undisclosed but, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Inter Milan have signed the Dutch international for €12.5 million with another €2.5 million bonuses related to qualification for the Champions League and the number of appearances for the player.
Nerazzurri were keen on adding a fullback before the end of this summer following Achraf Hakimi’s move to Paris Saint Germain. Dumfries moves to Milan after an impressive Euro 2020 that saw him score two goals in four matches for the national side.
The defender joins the Nerazzurri following an impressive spell with PSV Eindhoven. During three seasons with the Dutch giants, the fullback made 124 appearances and scored 16 goals.
What Was Said?
Speaking to the club website, Dumfries said: “The feeling is amazing. I’m very happy to join the champions of Italy. It’s a big opportunity for me and I’m happy to be here. I’m a wide defender and I like to attack a lot. I think I’ll fit in at Inter as they play with five at the back, as I have done with the Netherlands”.
He also touched upon previous Dutch players to play for Inter Milan. “I know which Dutch players have played here before. It’s an honour to join them on the list. I hope we can have a great season, maybe win another league title and do well in the Champions League. I can’t wait to get started. Forza Inter!”
