Yoshinori Muto Terminates Newcastle United Contract
An End to a Disappointing Tenure at St James’ Park
Yoshinori Muto has left Newcastle United by mutual consent after terminating his contract. The Japanese international left the club despite having almost 11 more months remaining in his contract. The striker ends his stay at Tyneside after a disappointing spell with Newcastle United.
Newcastle signed Yoshinori Muto in 2018 after paying £9.5 million to Mainz to secure the services of the striker. The Japanese international’s arrival in 2018 caused a buzz around the fans. Muto had been one of the stars for Japan during the impressive 2018 World Cup campaign. Newcastle were calling out for a striker and Muto arrived with a decent goalscoring record from the Bundesliga.
After initial struggles, Muto scored his first Premier League goal in his sixth appearance for the club. The goal should have been the ice-breaker for the Japanese international. But, it proved to be his only one in the Premier League. The striker’s form nose-dived following his first goal as he made 17 more appearances across all competitions for the Magpies- failing to find the net once
The second season was even poorer than his first one. The striker rarely made it onto the pitch, and whenever he managed an appearance, he crippled under the limelight. A return of one goal from eight appearances almost sealed his Newcastle career.
Hoping to rediscover his form, Newcastle United loaned Muto to Eibar last season. But, the gamble failed as the move proved far from fruitful for the Japanese international. The striker managed just three goals in 28 appearances across all competitions for Eibar. Following his return, Muto was one of the players Newcastle United had put on the market.
Yoshinori Muto spent three seasons as a Newcastle Player before ending his journey with a poor return of two goals in 28 appearances.
