Talks for Marcel Sabitzer Heating Up
Bayern Munich in Pursuit of Marcel Sabitzer
Sport Bild have reported that Bayern are stepping up their interest in signing Leipzig midfielder Sabitzer as they look to strengthen their midfield, which has struggled during four poor pre-season performances with the club failing to land one victory.
Marc Roca is out injured and will miss the start of the new Bundesliga season and Corentin Tolisso could be leaving the club, meaning Bayern boss Oliver Khan is left with a diminishing midfield that needs to be bolstered urgently.
Failure to Replace Thiago Alcantara
Bayern failed to replace Thiago who joined Liverpool in 2020, and it is felt that the squad has lacked any sort of quality in midfield ever since.
Sabitzer is reportedly worth around €50 million, but, with only one year left on his contract, Bayern could be able to prize the player away from Leipzig for as little as €18 million, which would be an absolute steal for a player of his quality and, at 27, he is still entering his prime years with much more expected to come from the Austrian.
The Julian Nagelsmann Connection
New Bayern boss Nagelsmann had Sabitzer as captain at Leipzig and is keen to be reunited with the versatile midfielder who was part of the team that finished second in the 2020/21 Bundesliga season.
Able to change games, Sabitzer could well be the player to unlock teams and help Bayern to success with his ability to score powerful goals, direct the midfield and take charge of matches. He delivers quality from set pieces and would make Bayern under Nagelsmann a team that would be extremely hard to beat.
