According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur are set to discuss the Cristian Romero price following the agreement between themselves and the defender regarding personal terms. The player wants the move, that much is clear with terms agreed, but they’ll face a tougher resolve in the form of Atalanta before a deal can get done.
Tottenham Set to Discuss Cristian Romero Price
Is the Hefty Fee Worth it?
The price reportedly being discussed is as high as €55 million which may also include add-ons. For such a hefty fee, Spurs should be getting a world-class central defender. But that’s where the move becomes rather strange. Romero is a top player, yes, but at the same time as this deal, Manchester United are being linked with a £50 million move for Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.
It begs the question as to whether those at Spurs could have aimed higher in the market; perhaps find a more experienced defender in a deal that carries less risk. It very much seems a potential deal which could go either way. Either Romero becomes the bargain of the summer or a transfer to forget.
Spurs fans, having seen so many flops come through the door, will be desperate to see a big-money signing reach the previously promised heights.
Atalanta Already Seeking Potential Replacement
When a Premier League club comes sniffing, particular one in the traditional top six, there is not much the likes of Atalanta can do if the right price is offered. And in this case, the price being discussed seems an offer in which the Italians cannot refuse.
With that said, reports have indicated that they are already actively seeking Romero replacements with Sven Botman the name mentioned. The Lille defender was part of the Ligue 1 title-winning side last season and impressed several teams throughout. At 21, he would be an ideal replacement for 23-year-old Romero.
