BBC Radio Solent reporter Adam Blackmore is reporting that Southampton striker Danny Ings has not turned down a new contract at the club, despite The Athletic reporting that he had.

Ings Could Remain at St Mary’s
According to Blackmore, Ings has not refused to sign a new deal with the club despite a number of reports to the contrary. There has been speculation linking the striker with a move to Manchester United, with the 28-year-old said to be weighing up his options.
Ings’ current deal expires in 2022 and even if the player has not agreed to a new contract, there will be nerves around St Mary’s at not wanting to let the player go for free when the current deal expires.
Saints’ Top Scorer Despite Injury
Ings suffered injury problems throughout the 2020/21 Premier League campaign but still ended being the club’s top marksman, scoring 13 goals in all competitions.
It is not the first time that injury has curtailed a season for Ings as he suffered throughout his three-year spell at Liverpool and the striker wants to attempt one last shot winning silverware.
Manchester City have also been mentioned in regard to Ings as they look to replace Sergio Aguero, who left to join Barcelona at the end of City’s title-winning season. Whilst City have also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur striker and England captain Harry Kane this summer, Ings would cost a fraction of the price, with the club wanting around £25 to £30 million should they be pushed to sell him compared to the £150 million+ that Daniel Levy is likely to want for his star man.
Hearing reports that Ings has not turned down a new contract will be pleasing for Saints fans, and with just over four weeks to the start of the new Premier League season, decisions will need to be taken quickly to ensure the new season doesn’t start with uncertainty.
