Norwich Delighted to Have Captured Billy Gilmour
City’s third signing of the summer has arrived. Following the signings of goalkeeper Angus Gunn and winger Milot Rashica, in has come Scottish international midfielder Billy Gilmour from Chelsea on a season-long loan. Manager Daniel Farke spoke to the clubs’ website following the arrival of his most recent signing. He said: “We are really happy to have brought Billy in. We must say a big thank you to Chelsea and all those involved for making this deal happen.
“I think it helped that in the past we have shown that young players with potential are in good hands here at Norwich City.
“We are delighted to bring Billy in because we’ve lost some players in that area. We’re looking to improve our options, particularly in the centre of the park, and for that, we’re happy to bring Billy in.”
Chelsea Happy for Young Star to Go on Loan
A loan move for Billy Gilmour at this stage of his career would be hugely beneficial for the youngster. Chelsea see his long-term future at the club but with the likes of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic ahead of him the decision to loan him out to a fellow Premier League club could be beneficial to Chelsea in the coming seasons.
Scottish international Gilmour has impressed since breaking into the Chelsea first-team squad. He has so far played 22 games in all competitions and recently broke into the Scotland squad. A man of the match performance against England in their recent Euro 2020 group match reaffirmed his ability and potential. Sadly his tournament was cut short due to a positive Covid test.
Thomas Tuchel a Big Fan of Chelsea Midfielder Billy Gilmour
Speaking to Football London last month, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel admitted that although competition is for a midfield place is fierce and Gilmour is not guaranteed a place, he is a big fan of the youngster. He said: “I actually hope he knows how much I appreciate him as a person and as a footballer.
“He has three big problems – N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho are three big problems. They are never injured and they perform on a level in central midfield that is not easy to compete with. This is the only thing.”
Those three “big problems” has convinced Tuchel to send Gilmour out on loan so he can continue his development and return to Stamford Bridge ready for more first-team action. In the short term, Gilmore is Norwich’s gain, especially if he can reproduce the displays seen in a Chelsea and Scotland shirt.
