PSV forward Donyell Malen is set to be on the move this summer. Eindhoven manager Roger Schmidt confirmed the same, saying the forward will be sold.
Donyell Malen Set for Move
Impressive Season for Malen
Donyell Malen has had a fine season. He scored 19 goals in the Eredivisie, only finishing behind VVV Venlo’s Giakoumakis in the top scorers’ list. Malen’s overall season tally was an impressive 27.
Frank de Boer selected him in Netherlands‘ Euro 2020 squad. He impressed, too, in the final group game, combining well with Dutch talisman Memphis Depay. As a result, he earned a start in the Round of 16 against the Czech Republic. That ended in defeat, but Malen’s stock has risen.
The forward is a product of Ajax’s famed academy. However, in 2015, he left the Dutch giants to join Arsenal. Two years, later, Arsenal let him go to PSV for just £200,000. He has grown from strength to strength there. An unfortunate injury saw him miss eight months of action in 2019/20. Indeed, if Euro 2020 actually happened in 2020, Malen would’ve missed it. The postponement allowed him to come back and regain form.
Liverpool Among Interested Clubs
Liverpool are among the clubs credited with an interest in Malen. The 22-year is in good form now, and his Euro 2020 performances will only boost his confidence. He is expected to cost more than £20 million. Liverpool’s attack has been under fire for some time. They need a refresh, and Malen adds a pacey option.
Schmidt has admitted, of course, that Malen and fellow Euro breakout star Denzel Dumfries will likely be leaving Eindhoven. Liverpool are touted as the strongest contenders for his signature. There are other clubs, however, who have him on their list. Borussia Dortmund, who will most probably lose Jadon Sancho, have their eyes on him too.
The Euro 2020 showing from Malen will only increase his price tag. Indeed, he might cost as much as £34 million.
