Dane’s Life Saving Actions Draws New Level of Respect for Defender

When Eriksen collapsed to the floor against Finland on Saturday (June 12), the football community suddenly feared for the worst.

Video images of supporters, teammates and match officials in states of shock and sadness were broadcast around the world as Eriksen received medical treatment.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, whose collapse was due to a cardiac arrest, has since received care in hospital and made a statement about his condition.

However, it could have been a much worse story had it not been for the quick thinking of Eriksen’s Denmark teammate, Simon Kjaer.

Kjaer rushed to his teammate’s side seconds after his fall to the floor, clearing his airways and putting him into the recovery position – actions that could well have been the difference between life and death.

When the 32-year-old noticed Eriksen’s partner was on the sidelines looking distraught, the Danish captain consoled her. He showed tremendous leadership and has earned plenty of respect as a result of his life-saving actions.

As a result, the Daily Mail reports that Kjaer’s domestic club, AC Milan, are considering making him their captain for the new season.

The current skipper for the Italian giants, Alessio Romagnoli, has struggled to be a regular starter in recent months and could seek a new beginning this summer.

Vice-captain Gianluigi Donnarumma, meanwhile, is also set to depart AC Milan and join last season’s Ligue 1 runners-up, PSG.

It means that Kjaer, who has become a fan favourite due to his consistent performances, has become a leading candidate to take the armband.

According to Sportmediaset (via the Daily Mail), technical director Paolo Maldini is in favour of the appointment.
