A Huge Blow for Norwich City
The creative midfielder joins having endured an incredible season in the Championship, taking the Canaries to promotion and a title win. The Argentine was at the centre of Daniel Farke’s unstoppable side, scoring 15 and assisting a further 17 goals.
Dean Smith will be delighted with the transfer. In truth, whenever without Jack Grealish, Villa lacked a creative spark. Now, they can happily say that they have the quality in abundance. Buendia and Grealish could form one of the most dangerous and creative partnerships in the Premier League.
The transfer is Aston Villa’s record signing, beating Ollie Watkins’ £28 million move of last summer. It is also the most expensive sale in the Canaries’ history, breaking the record previously held by £24 million Everton signing Ben Godfrey.
For Norwich City, losing Buendia is undoubtedly a huge blow. Having been promoted, the Canaries would have been hoping to keep hold of their star players; they would have expected them to give it another go with Farke in the top-flight, but he has done the exact opposite.
It’s a strange time for the move to occur, truthfully, when considering the fact he could have jumped what was a sinking Premier League ship last season. Instead, Emi Buendia stayed and more than played his part. For that, he deserves plenty of credit and has earned a move.
The midfielder stayed when times were tough before taking Norwich to better times. He only decided to move when he saw his club back where they belong. That, in its own right should speak volumes of the character that Dean Smith has acquired.
