Football Transfer News: Omar Richards, Matthew Pennington, Mattie Pollock and Dapo Afolayan
Richards Completes Long-Awaited Bayern Move
It’s certainly rare to see a player make the move from England’s second-tier to one of the giants of European and world football. However, Omar Richards has done just that after he signed for Bayern Munich from Championship side Reading.
Reports linked Richards with the move all the way back in February, so it’s clear that Bayern have been intent on getting their man for some time. It’s also a dream move for Richards who, at 23-years-old, is likely to be in and around the first-team squad.

Richards expressed his delight at sealing the move, saying: “My move to FC Bayern is a great honour for me. A dream has come true. I’m proud to be wearing the shirt of one of the world’s biggest clubs. I hope I can help the team continue to be successful in the future.
“My thanks to the management at FC Bayern for their trust. Our conversations were very convincing. I can’t wait to be on the pitch for Bayern. Mia san mia!”
Pennington Makes Shrews Loan Permanent
After spending the 2020/21 season on loan, Shrewsbury Town have completed the permanent signing of defender Matthew Pennington from Everton. The 26-year-old joins the Shrews on a two-year deal and is the first addition of the summer for Steve Cotterill’s side.
Pennington came through the youth academy at Everton and spent 15 years with the club, scoring one goal which came in a Merseyside Derby at Anfield.
He made just a handful of appearances for the Toffees, though, and prior to joining Shrewsbury last season, he had had loan spells with Tranmere Rovers, Coventry City, Walsall, Leeds United, Ipswich Town and Hull City.

Speaking to the club website about the move, Pennington said: “It was really nice to get it done early, and I am really excited for the season ahead. It will be good to enjoy my holiday and come back refreshed to start again.
“I have been out on loan not knowing where I’m going to be in the last few years. For me to be settled and know where I’m going to be permanently is pleasing. The last six months of knowing the club, knowing the gaffer and living in the area has been positive.”
Watford Sign Young Defender Pollock
Premier League new boys Watford have added to their defence with the signing of Mattie Pollock from Grimsby Town. The 19-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the club.
After spending his youth career with Leeds, Pollock went on to make 58 appearances in total for Grimsby and scored four goals in 29 appearances for the Mariners last season.
