The Blues travel to Villa Park on Sunday 23 May for their final game of the season, with Thomas Tuchel’s side knowing full well that a win will secure Champions League football for next year. According to George Smith of Football.London, the latest Chelsea injury news is dominated by hamstring issues.
Chelsea Injury News: Andreas Christensen, N’Golo Kante and Kai Havertz Updates
Andreas Christensen Could Return
Danish International Andreas Christensen has missed Chelsea’s last three games after suffering a hamstring injury in the 2-1 victory over Manchester City earlier in the month.
His setback meant that he was unavailable for the recent double-header against Leicester City, but the centre-back is now in contention for a starting place against Aston Villa, with Tuchel confirming this in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
N’Golo Kante and Kai Havertz Remain Doubts
N’Golo Kante has been integral to Chelsea’s recent success under Tuchel, but finds himself in a difficult position ahead of the visit to Villa Park.
The former Leicester midfielder was forced off with a slight hamstring issue in the first half against his old employers on Tuesday night. However, the Frenchman could still feature, but Tuchel believes it is a touch-and-go situation: “With NG [Kante] it’s going to be very close but there are some hopes he joins team training on Friday. If not, he will join on Monday.”
Similar to the aforementioned duo, Kai Havertz has also experienced recent trouble with a hamstring problem. The former PSG manager has also said that there will be a late check on the former Bayer Leverkusen playmaker, placing him in the same boat as Kante: “Kai did a test today and will be tested in team tomorrow.”
Other Chelsea Injury News
Tuchel did not outline any other injury concerns during Friday’s press conference. This means that Marcos Alonso, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech and Olivier Giroud will also be available for selection, should Tuchel need them.
