Chelsea to Open Contract Talks With Andreas Christensen

Christensen Chelsea

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are set to reward in-form defender Andreas Christensen with a new contract. The 24-year-old is one of a number of players to regain his place since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival.

The defender has taken his chances in abundance, too- especially in a recent win over Liverpool. There was a time when his future at Chelsea could have been thrown into question. But, like all good players, Christensen took his chance to rise again.

Now he could be set to keep his place in the side for the remainder of the season.

Reaping the Rewards for Recent Performances

When Thiago Silva suffered an untimely injury, many were quick to question who might step up in the Brazilian’s absence. Yet in came Christensen to steady the ship.

Not many would have pointed to the Dane to solve Silva’s absence, but it was him Tuchel chose. He has since silenced any remaining doubters with a dominant display at Anfield, keeping a clean sheet and securing a crucial three points in the process.

The win at Anfield kept the unbeaten run under Tuchel going and saw Chelsea climb back into the top four.

Chelsea Impressing Under Tuchel

The way Tuchel dismantled Liverpool at Anfield is something those in the top six rarely do. They were facing an out of form Liverpool side, yes, but this does not discredit their performance.

They dominated possession and arrogantly played their way through the Liverpool press in a way that only Manchester City have done before. And they reaped the rewards for doing so.

Such is their similarities under Tuchel to Manchester City, we could see a title race between the two sides next season as financial superpower meets financial superpower in the Premier League.
