Triple Gameweek 35 Fantasy Premier League Captaincy: The Options

The big news dropped on Wednesday night as fixture amendments were announced. It has thrown up a rare Triple gameweek this week. Manchester United will have to play thrice in five days as their postponed match against Liverpool has been rescheduled and put into gameweek 35. The fixture amendments have also meant there are eight teams with two matches this week.

Bruno Fernandes

  • Goals: 16
  • Assists: 13
  • FPL Points: 218
  • FPL points in the last five matches: 15
  • Price: £11.5
  • Opponents: Aston Villa (away), Leicester City (home), Liverpool (home)
Bruno Fernandes has not scored in the last five matches. However, with three matches coming up one just cannot ignore him. The Portuguese has scored ten, 12 and three points respectively against this week’s opponents in the return legs. He has only been rested once in the Premier League this season. Besides, Fernandes has openly said before that he doesn’t need a rest.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might just have to start him in all three of the matches. He got back into form against AS Roma in the Europa League so one can hope for a big score in at least one of the three matches. The Aston Villa game is the most promising one out of the three, with the fixture against Leicester likely to see the most changes made to the lineup.

Manchester United Defenders

With so many matches to be played over a short period, one could witness more focus given on defence rather than attack to conserve some energy. Possibilities are there for the Red Devils to keep one or two clean sheets this week. So, giving the armband to a defender who is likely to start all three matches may not be the worst idea.

Harry Maguire is the obvious one if you are looking for a nailed-on starter. He has played every minute of every game in the Premier League this season. Luke Shaw is the most attacking out of the defenders but with Alex Telles around, Solksjaer might just decide to give Shaw a rest in one of the three matches. Aaron Wan-Bissaka could start all three unless Axel Tuanzebe is given a start. Victor Lindelöf might also be given a breather in one of the three matches. So, Harry Maguire is probably the best choice out of the defenders.

Kelechi Iheanacho

  • Goals: 10
  • Assists: 2
  • FPL Points: 93
  • FPL points in the last five matches: 38
  • Price: £6.3
  • Opponents: Newcastle United (home), Manchester United (away)
Kelechi Iheanacho disappointed his FPL owners last Friday when he could manage only an assist against ten-men Southampton. The Nigerian has a brilliant home fixture against Newcastle this week. Can he get a big score this Friday night? The trip to Old Trafford looks tough as the Foxes have a pretty poor record against Manchester United. However, Iheanacho did score twice against them in the FA Cup just over a month ago. Iheanacho offers a possible differential option for the armband.

Triple gameweeks do not come every season and one has to enjoy the ride when it comes around. Bruno Fernandes is the obvious choice this week although one could try Harry Maguire as well.
