Back to back defeats for Jose Mourinho mean that a strong performance and points are vital for Tottenham Hotspur when Chelsea and new manager Thomas Tuchel visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday evening.
Three Points Are Vital for Tottenham Hotspur
Jose Mourinho in Need of Strong Spurs Performance Against Chelsea
Tottenham have quickly gone from being Premier League title contenders to slipping out of the top four. A 3-1 home defeat to Liverpool was swiftly followed by a 1-0 away defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion where Spurs failed to trouble the Brighton goal. Harry Kane was missing which depleted the Spurs attack but Mourinho started with Gareth Bale up front and they were toothless and lacking in attacking threat.
With Mourinho’s former club Chelsea the visitors next, he needs a strong performance from his players to avoid slipping further down the table and avoid a dip in form becoming a crisis.
Guessing Mourinho’s Starting Eleven
With Kane, Dele Alli, Sergio Reguilon and Giovani Lo Celso all out injured, Mourinho is missing some key players and with that much of Tottenham’s creativity and goal scoring power. Son Heung-min struggled to play at the head of the Spurs attack against Brighton but had more of the ball once Bale was replaced with Carlos Vinicius.

In defence, Spurs have started to look less than secure and the fact that Mourinho keeps changing the backline shows he is not even close to knowing what his best backline is. Toby Alderweireld has been dropped in favour Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier has been a mainstay and the full-backs have changed on several occasions.
Mourinho needs to get the balance just right if he is to get Spurs’ season back on track and there can be no escape from the fact that points are vital for Tottenham Hotspur.
