Demarai Gray: The Latest English Talent to Make the Bundesliga Switch

Gray Bundesliga

Jadon Sancho, Jonjoe Kenny, Ademola Lookman, Reece Oxford, and, now, Demarai Gray; what do all these names have in common? They have all made the decision to switch English football for the Bundesliga with Gray becoming the latest Englishman to do so.

The former Leicester man will be hoping to have similar success to Jadon Sancho in the Bundesliga. The tricky winger with similar traits to Sancho moves to the Bundesliga and Bayer Leverkusen looking to rediscover his best form and realise his potential.

For a lot of the Englishman of the aforementioned list, it was the same. Kenny left Everton in need of first-team action in which Schalke could offer in a season-long loan. Lookman, too, opted for Leipzig over staying at Everton before joining Fulham on loan this season.

And, now, Gray has swapped Leicester for Leverkusen permanently following his fall down the pecking order.

Gray Becomes Latest Englishman to Make Bundesliga Switch

Leverkusen Aiming for Second-Half Season Resurgence

There is no doubting Leverkusen’s quality, and, at one stage, they looked ready to challenge for the title. In recent times, a dip in form has seen them drop out of the Champions League places.

In the first half of the season, Leverkusen were quick; clinical and looked likes title challengers. Now, having won one game in four, they look nothing like their best.

With Demarai Gray secured, and a partnership between the former Leicester man and Leon Baily likely to occur, Leverkusen should get back on track. They certainly showed signs of life in an impressive win against Borussia Dortmund, but consistency is the key.

Gray Must Realise Potential in the Bundesliga

No one could have predicted the sudden rise of Manchester City academy graduate Jadon Sancho when he swapped Manchester for Dortmund.

With Gray, the scenario is different. He has first-team action under his belt in abundance; he has always looked on the brink of producing something special; it has always been about unlocking his potential.

Now, at Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, should he get the opportunity he left Leicester for, Gray could finally find his best form. Should he realise his potential, Leverkusen could have themselves a difference-maker in the battle for Champions League football.
