From being top of the table just two weeks ago, a Tottenham Hotspur victory is now needed to get them back into the mix for the 2020/21 Premier League title when they visit Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Anything Less Than a Tottenham Hotspur Victory Will Leave Title Dreams Shattered
Jose Mourinho’s Spurs Need Victory to Stay in Touch With Leaders
Defeats away to Liverpool and then a 2-0 defeat to Leicester City combined with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace has seen the north London club slip to eighth in the table. Before Spurs kick-off against Wolves, they could be nine points off league leaders Liverpool and any talk of a title challenge will be all but over. Anything less than a victory against Wolves will not be good enough for Jose Mourinho’s side.
Carabao Cup Respite for Spurs
In midweek Tottenham had some respite from their recent league slip-ups when they beat Stoke City 3-1 to secure their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, a trophy that Jose Mourinho has his eye on winning to end Spurs’ 12-year wait for silverware.
Wolves Struggling for Consistency
Wolves are a difficult team to predict. Liverpool, Aston Villa and Burnley have all beaten Wolves yet they have also managed to beat Chelsea and Arsenal in the same month as these defeats. Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping for the Wolves that lost those three games on Sunday night instead of the one that gained all three points against Chelsea and Arsenal.
Team News
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham will be without midfielder Giovani Lo Celso who has a thigh problem and is likely to be out until at least the New Year according to the Evening Standard. Gareth Bale was taken off at halftime in the cup win over Stoke and is also doubtful.
In better news for Jose Mourinho, Tanguy Ndombele looks set to make a return after being rested against Stoke City in mid-week.
Wolves
As for Nuno Espirito Santo, he is set to be without Raul Jimenez, who is still recovering from a fractured skull, and Leander Dendoncker, who is facing a late fitness test.
Prediction
Both teams are desperate for the three points and this could be a close tie with Spurs looking to maintain a title push, and Wolves hoping to gain consistency.
