Flint Joins Sheffield Wednesday
Wednesday confirmed the signing of Flint on deadline day. The experienced 31-year-old centre back has reportedly been a target for the Yorkshire club since 2019.
Both Queens Park Rangers and Reading were also interested in signing Flint on loan. However, the Cardiff defender chose to link up with Garry Monk at Hillsborough for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.
Flint has not featured for Cardiff since February as Bluebirds’ boss Neil Harris has preferred Sean Morrison and Curtis Nelson. The 31-year-old centre back has not made Cardiff’s matchday squad in any of their four league matches this season.
Flint will be relishing a new opportunity with Wednesday. He is Wednesday’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window and joins the likes of Josh Windass, Izzy Brown and former Cardiff teammate Callum Paterson at Hillsborough.
Boost to Wednesday’s Weakened Defence
Wednesday’s signing of Flint will be a relief for Monk. His defensive options have suffered in the early stages of the 2020/21 season. Both Tom Lees and Liam Shaw have been ruled out recently due to respective injuries.
As a result, Flint could enter the starting 11 straight away in the Owl’s Championship fixture against Birmingham City on Saturday 17 October.
Flint has made nearly 200 Championship appearances throughout his career and will bring plenty of experience to Wednesday’s defence.
The 31-year-old boasts and impressive career in the English second-tier. He was a regular in the heart of Bristol City’s defence between 2015 and 2018 and played 246 games for the Robbins. Flint also scored 38 goals during his Bristol career and setup and further 11.
