Chris Wilder Confirms Sheffield United Talks With Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster

Sheffield United have held talks with Liverpool over a loan move for striker Rhian Brewster, according to manager Chris Wilder.

The youngster has been on Sheffield United’s radar for some time now as they look to bring in another striker.

Sheffield United Hold Talks Over Rhian Brewster Loan Deal

Chris Wilder’s Comments on Rhian Brewster

Speaking after The Blades’ penalty shootout defeat to Burnley in the Carabao Cup on Thursday, Wilder told reporters: “We have made enquiries about a few strikers and most on loan.

“Rhian is one we have talked about and spoken to Liverpool about. We need to bring another one in.”

Another striker coming in isn’t surprising seeing as though Lys Mousset will now be out for some time with a toe injury.

“We have looked at the situation of losing Lys as well for a little while and we need to find that quality from within and to add as well would make us stronger and a more complete group,” Wilder added.

“As you understand it’s difficult to source and we are not in a situation to do what two or three other clubs have done or people might expect us to do.

“We will keep working hard and smart and we will keep going to fill that gap. We are looking to bring one in at the top of the pitch and that is still the case.”

Rhian Brewster’s Loan Spell at Swansea

Interest in Brewster comes after a successful loan spell last season. Joining Swansea City during the January transfer window, the youngster would go onto play 22 times for the Swans. In that time he scored 11 goals for the club, which included one in their Championship play-off semi-final defeat against Brentford.

This form has seen a number of Premier League clubs look to bring in the striker on loan for this season, with Sheffield United now looking to step up their interest. Other clubs interested include Aston Villa, Leeds United, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and Burnley.

Liverpool’s Increased Transfer Business

Liverpool’s increased transfer business in the last few days might mean that the Premier League champions are happy to let Brewster leave either on loan or for good.

They have already announced the signing of Thiago Alcantara and are looking increasingly likely to complete the signing of Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Over the last few days, they have also enquired about Watford forward Ismaila Sarr. This transfer business might allow for outgoings, which could see players like Brewster leave the club either on loan or permanently.
