REPORT: Newcastle United Closing in on the Signing of Former Liverpool Target Jamal Lewis

According to David Ornstein and Michael Bailey, Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis. The move is worth an initial £13.75 million, plus add-ons, according to reports.

Newcastle United Closing on Jamal Lewis Signing

Newcastle United Succeed Where Liverpool Failed

Liverpool wanted Jamal Lewis as a backup to Andy Robertson and had made a bid to sign him earlier in the summer. However, their bid was deemed to be too low by Norwich City. Eventually, Liverpool opted to go for Kostas Tsimikas. However, the interest of Jürgen Klopp shows the quality of Jamal Lewis. The 22-year-old is currently on duty with Northern Ireland. As a result, Jamal Lewis should have his medical later this week.

Jamal Lewis Will Excite Newcastle Fans

The move should excite the Newcastle United fans. The failed Saudi Arabian-backed takeover made the mood in Tyneside rather gloomy. However, the signing of an exciting young full-back should raise the spirits. The young and talented Norwich star impressed last season with his ability going forward. In addition, he has the time to learn and improve as well. Newcastle United have a player for both the present and future if the deal goes through.

If Steve Bruce can add Jamal Lewis to the potential signing of Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser, Newcastle United will have a reasonable transfer window to tackle the new season.

Norwich City Keen to Raise Funds

Norwich City have made 11 signings so far this transfer window. The latest of them was Ben Gibson from Burnley. As a result, the Canaries now need to sell some players to recoup the expenditure. If this deal goes through, it will be Norwich’s first major sale following Premier League relegation. They are targeting an immediate return to the Premier League from the Championship.
