Champions League Dead Rubber Gives Jose Mourinho Perfect Chance to Rest Key Players

Jose Mourinho

When Tottenham Hotspur play Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening, it is a Champions League dead rubber. Bayern are already confirmed as the group winners, while Tottenham have secured a runners-up spot, thus providing Jose Mourinho with the perfect opportunity to rest key players.

Champions League Dead Rubber Perfect Time for Jose Mourinho to Rest Players

A Good Opportunity for Some

With nothing to play for except pride, Jose Mourinho will use this game to rest his key players. There is no point in risking injuries and leaving players at home means the squad will be fresh and ready to face Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend, as Spurs chase down the top four.

Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min, Dele Alli, Lucas Moura are all set to stay in London and do light training. Tanguy Ndombele is a doubt with a thigh strain as well, leaving opportunities for others to impress Mourinho.

Chance to Shine

Troy Parrott has been scoring goals for the youth teams at Tottenham and Wednesday night could be his chance to shine. Fans have been calling for the youngster to get his chance but it has not been forthcoming. He did play in the embarrassing League Cup defeat at Colchester United and that is a night he won’t be wanting to remember too often.

Parrott has been compared with Harry Kane due to his movement and strength on the ball. He came on against Burnley and Jose Mourinho made sure he had a moment to treasure, giving him the match ball for his debut: “It was his debut and I think it had a much bigger meaning to a kid who last week was playing against kids in the Champions League. Today he’s playing in the Premier League at 17.

“Will he play against Bayern Munich? I don’t know. All I can say is Harry Kane won’t. Who plays, we’ll see.”

Other players who may get their chance are Oliver Skipp, highly-rated defender Japhet Tanganga and Jack Roles.

Despite being a Champions League dead rubber, the youngsters won’t get many better chances to make their case to be playing for the first team on a more regular basis.
