Best Timberwolves vs. Jazz Player Props Tonight
Walker Kessler Over 2.5 Blocks + Steals
Kessler inserted himself into the Rookie of the Year conversation with his recent production. He’s doing a bit of everything, but we’re going to continue leaning into his defensive exploits.
He’s averaging 2.7 blocks and 0.8 steals across 26.1 minutes over his last 12 games, all starts. He owns an 8.4% block rate on the season. For context, when Dikembe Mutombo led the lead in blocks in 1994-95, his block rate was “only” 7.5%. As long as Kessler continues to receive increased playing time, his rim protection will shine.
Lauri Markkanen Over 7.5 Points First Quarter
Markkanen struggled in Monday’s contest, fouling out with 19 points, his lowest output since December 17. He averaged 26.7 points in the nine games prior. Utah is favored at home, and it’s reasonable to expect head coach Will Hardy to want his top scorer to erase the bad taste of Monday night from his palate.
He shot well from the floor overall, but only hit one of seven treys and didn’t make a single trip to the charity stripe. The Wolves allow the most free throw attempts in the league, so bettors can anticipate Markkanen to be active from all three scoring levels.
Bonus: Markkanen First Basket – Kessler and the Jazz have been more successful winning opening jump balls than Gobert and the Wolves. If you believe Markkanen is in store for a quick start, it’s not a bad idea to take a shot on the plus-money odds of him sinking the game’s first bucket.
Anthony Edwards Over 2.5 Threes
Edwards is in a minor four-game rut, shooting 19.2% from distance. However, he was hitting five of 9.8 three-point attempts in the preceding six games. Utah is not particularly strong defensively, perhaps providing Edwards an opportunity to find his stroke again.
There’s nothing fancy to offer in terms of deep analysis. We just like Edwards’ overall ability and the chances of him breaking out of his slump sooner than later.
D’Angelo Russell Leading Scorer
This is a long-shot wager for those who want to take a stab at potential plus-money profits. Russell enjoying a solid stretch of efficiency and volume, particularly from three-point range. He’s shooting 47.1% on 15.7 field goal attempts, including 44.3% on 9.7 three-point tries.
He hit the 30-point mark three times this season and is a capable scorer at all three levels. Of course, we don’t recommend this wager as a means of chasing the game, so to speak. However, if you have a little extra in your budget, a modest wager on Russell leading all scorers makes for an intriguing gamble.
