Will Steve Kerr walk away from the Warriors and coaching?

The Latest On Steve Kerr, Draymond Green, Brandin Podziemski, Quentin Post, And Al Horford Upcoming Decisions

3 Other Players Want To Return

Melton is the third player with a player option. Melton, who has played in just 55 games over the last two seasons, produced a career-high 12.5 points, though he struggled mightily shooting the ball. He also knocked down 1.5 threes and came up with 1.6 steals a game.

“Melton says he ‘would love to’ come back next season,” Friedell said. “He has a player option he has to decide on worth about $3.5 million. Says he will leave it to his agent and the front office to figure out if there’s a way forward with the Warriors.”

Spencer had a breakout campaign this year. The 29-year-old guard averaged 7.2 points and 3.5 assists with shooting splits of 42.7/33.9/77.2. He scored in double figures in 23 of his 66 appearances and produced one double-double. He is slated to be a restricted free agent with a $2.7 million qualifying offer.

“Pat Spencer says he would like to be back next season — but he’s not sure how things will play out this summer,” Friedell tweeted yesterday afternoon. “Spencer said Kerr has been like a “second father” to him in his tenure with the Warriors.”

Quenton Post Foot Recovery

Post, who has a $2.6 million qualifying offer,  is also a restricted free agent and would like to return. The 7-foot forward was a part-time starter this past season, averaging 7.7 points and 4.0 rebounds with shooting splits of  44.0/33.6/79.1. He scored in double-figures 24 times, topping the 2o-point mark once, and grabbed at least 10 boards twice.

Post didn’t dress or was inactive in 12 of the Warriors’ last 14 games due to a foot injury. He is expected to be out of action for a couple more weeks.

“Post said his foot injury is feeling better — but he thinks he’s about two weeks away from being able to get back on the court,” Friedell said via X yesterday. “He wants to play for the Dutch national team this summer. He hopes to stay with the Warriors in the future.”

Brandin Podziemski Wants A Contract Extension This Summer

Brandin Podziemski closed out the 2025-26 campaign strongly and wants a new contract this summer. As a result of his performance post-all-star break, Podziemski produced a career year with averages of 13.8 points and 1.8 threes with shooting splits of 45.5/37.1/79.7. He added 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals while playing all 82 games.

Podziemski is a good scorer and rebounder who is improving as a playmaker. Podziemski scored in double figures 62 times, topping the 20-point mark 16 times, including one 30-point contest. He also recorded five double-doubles.

Podziemski is on an expiring $5.4 million contract this year and will be a restricted free agent next year. But he told Friedell that he would like to sign an extension this summer.

“I want to be here for the long term… hopefully we can get something done,” Podiziemski said.

Expect the Warriors to work out an extension this summer as they need a succession plan once Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Green leave. Selected with the No. 19 pick in 2023, Podziemski has demonstrated that he can be a core piece for the Dubs in the future.
