Report: Manu Ginobili Seriously Considering Retirement

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN broke the news on August 22nd:

Ginobili is 41 years old and would be entering his 17th season. He is the second oldest player in the NBA right now. Despite his age, Ginobili is still an effective player. He averaged 8.9 points per game off the bench for the Spurs last season. His three-point shooting did drop to 33.3% last season, but he is only a year removed from shooting 39.2% from deep. Ginobili is still an excellent passer as well. If he returns, he will be a valuable veteran presence off the bench for a Spurs team that expects to be in the playoffs and a valuable mentor to young guards Lonnie Walker and Dejounte Murray.

Ginobili has had a great career. He is a four-time NBA champion, a two-time All-Star, and the 2007-08 Sixth Man of the Year. He was named to two All-NBA teams as well. Ginobili was a lethal scorer in his prime and could always be relied on to make an impact on the court. He averaged more than 20 points per 36 minutes for six seasons in a row. In addition, he was always one of the most skilled passers in the league. He had five seasons where he averaged more than six assists per 36 minutes, which is very impressive for a shooting guard.

Ginobili is the last player remaining from the Spurs dynasty. Tim Duncan retired and Tony Parker recently signed with the Charlotte Hornets. No matter what Ginobili decides, he will be remembered as one of the greatest Spurs ever and could one day end up in the Hall of Fame.
