Diamondbacks Pick Up Slugger’s Option for 2025

Diamondbacks infielder Eugenio Suárez will have his option picked up for 2025 worth $15 million. The 2018 All-Star will not test free agency for the upcoming regular season retaining his contract. The 33-year-old had a strong second half and could be in line for a contract extension with the Diamondbacks. The offseason has just commenced and already several players have made decisions regarding their contracts. Suárez remaining in Arizona is one of the team’s first major moves of the offseason.

Diamondbacks Exercise Option on All-Star Eugenio Suárez

The Venezuelan third baseman and shortstop will be looking to have a bounce-back season and return the team to World Series contention. After July 1st of this season, Suárez recorded a .312 batting average, 43 hits, 12 home runs, 37 RBI, and 29 runs across 38 games. This was a big improvement from the beginning of the season. Suárez also showcased his solid strength as a third baseman for the Diamondbacks. Arizona eventually finished third in the NL West and will be looking to revamp next season. In 2023, the Diamondbacks made it to the World Series, but lost in five games to the Texas Rangers. In 2024, neither team made it to the postseason

Suarez finished the 2024 season with a.256 batting average, 101 RBI, 30 home runs, and a 3.1 WAR. In July, via Stats Inc., Suárez was the first Diamondback to record nine or more home runs and 25 or more RBI in a month since Eduardo Escobar went yard 10 times and recorded 28 RBI in August of 2019. Between July and mid-September, Suárez also had four games with four or more hits and four games with five or more RBI.  No other player has earned this milestone since Babe Ruth did in 1927. By the end of July, Suárez was hitting .225 and slugging .406, improving significantly from his numbers on June 23, when he was slashing .192/.176/.308.
