Royals Interested In Clutch Closer

The Royals are among many teams drawing plenty of interest in hot shot reliever/closer Tanner Scott from the Miami Marlins. He’s also been eyed by the Orioles, Yankees, Diamondbacks, Mariners, Phillies and the Dodgers. These are all teams who are doing especially well in the standings. Whichever team Scott goes to, it will, without doubt, add the icing on the cake to an already bolstered lineup. All of these teams interested are contending teams for the postseason.

Star Closer Drawing Interest from Royals

What the Royals Have to Offer

Looking at what the Royals offer in return, their top five prospects are Blake Mitchell, Ben Kudrna, Frank Mozzicato, Mason Barnett, and Blake Wolters. Mitchell is a former first-round pick and plays catcher and designated hitter. Mitchell has done well, sporting a 152 wRC+, 12 home runs, and 20 stolen bases in 327 A-ounce appearances. On July 11th, Mitchell crushed a big homer (425 feet) that was his 12th of the season. The Royals are not wasting time keeping their attention and interest with Scott. But the Royals have a new top prospect named Jac Caglianone.

They already started things by trading for Hunter Harvey. The Royals first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino, commented on the importance of each game remaining in the season: “I think we’ve gotten to the point where every game is a big game now. We’ve talked about it all year: Where we want to be, where we want to be. We’re here. We’ve got 58 left. They’re all big now.”

Hot Shot Scott

Unsurprisingly, several teams are on the hunt to gain Scott. Impressively, he’s allowed no runs as a closer since June 13th. Scott is also known for having a wicked wipeout slider that has worn out opponents. Across 45.2 innings pitched this season, he has a 6-5 record with a 1.18 ERA, 53 punches, and a WHIP of 1.01. It will be interesting to see where Scott will land, as many teams are aggressively planning to scoop him up. Scott going to the Royals would be huge for their bullpen.
