White Sox Are “Insisting” Yankees Top Outfield Prospect to Acquire Ace

The New York Yankees trade rumors are plenty. A new report revealed the rumored cost for the Yankees if they want to pursue Chicago White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet.  The Yankees have been struggling of late, but their wins against the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend are signs of a possible turnaround. They now have a chance to sweep the Orioles and retake first place in the American League East. The Yankees problems persist and general manager Brian Cashman will need to make some moves before the July trade deadline. The club is eyeing multiple players, including Crochet. Either way, the asking price may be too high for the Yankees.

Yankees Trade Rumors: White Sox Want Prospect for Crochet

Crochet has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the AL. The 25-year-old has a 3.02 ERA in 107 1/3 innings of work this year, leading the majors with 150 strikeouts. His 35.2 percent strikeout rate goes with a solid 5.4 percent walk rate. A starting pitcher with that talent is hard to come by, which is why the Yankees are interested in his services.

If the Yankees want the left-hander, the White Sox are likely to set the bar high. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Chicago is “insisting” on the Yankees outfield prospect Spencer Jones as part of the return. New York drafted Jones in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft. Jones was part of many Yankees trade rumors throughout the offseason. He was a target for Chicago the two clubs discussed a potential Dylan Cease trade before he was dealt to the San Diego Padres.

Although, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman writes that the Yankees aren’t “keen to part with the top prospect.” Nightengale also notes that rival GMs are unsure if Crochet will be traded. Chicago “fully intends” to deal him, and that a recent offer from the Padres was “dismissed.” Regardless, it all depends on what happens in the coming weeks. If the Yankees remain unwilling to trade Jones, then a deal between Chicago and New York is unlikely unless either side folds regarding the deal.

Jones is the No. 2 prospect in the Yankees system. He got off to a slow start for Double-A Somerset but does have 10 home runs in 73 games.
