Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shared his thoughts on Corey Seager‘s early career with the team before they squared off against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.
Seager made his return to Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night. The former Dodgers shortstop did not play in the game due to injury, but Dave Roberts still sang the praises of Seager ahead of the first pitch.
“Superstar, just a heady baseball player. Great competitor, and has performed very well on the biggest stages,” Roberts said of Seager, via Dodger Blue.

Corey Seager’s Dodgers Career
Dodgers fans were surely looking forward to seeing Seager play on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the Rangers star missed the game with a hamstring injury. There was a time when Seager was considered to be one of the best players on the Dodgers roster.
Seager was selected by Los Angeles in the first round of the 2012 MLB Draft. The younger brother of former Seattle Mariner Kyle Seager, he made his MLB debut in 2015 and the Dodgers had high expectations for him. 2016 was Seager’s first full season in the big leagues, and he made the most of the opportunity. Not only did he win the National League Rookie of the Year Award, but Seager also made the NL All-Star team and finished third in NL MVP voting.
2017 also saw Seager make the All-Star team. His 2018 campaign was cut short due to injuries. In 2019, Seager played well, but 2020 was an even bigger year for the shortstop.
There was no MLB All-Star Game in 2020, but Seager surely would have been on the roster if there had been one. He played well during the shortened 60-game season and ended up leading the Dodgers to a World Series championship. The fact that he played a pivotal role in LA’s Fall Classic run cemented Seager as a fan favorite.
After the 2021 campaign, though, Seager signed in Texas with the Rangers. He’s made back-to-back All-Star teams with the Rangers and even finished second in American League MVP voting in 2023.
Rangers-Dodgers Clash
After a 15-2 blowout loss in the series opener, Texas now has a 31-35 record. Injuries have been an issue, but stars such as Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer are trending in positive directions. Of course, Texas is hopeful that Seager will avoid an IL stint and return to the lineup soon. The Rangers have two more games against the Dodgers in Los Angeles if the shortstop wants to play against his former team.
