With Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers heading to the IL, it was just announced the team will call up their top prospect, infielder Adael Amador to make his MLB debut in Sunday’s game against the St.Louis Cardinals. Amador is the #32 overall prospect in MLB. He was added to Colorado’s 40-man roster this offseason. The 21-year-old played a ton of second base last season with the Rockies Double-A organization, the Hartford Yard Goats. So, it makes sense to add their top prospect to the major league level in front of other prospects like Aaron Schunk and Coco Montes.
Colorado hopes this move pans out how they envisioned. The Rockies offense needs some consistency. Even though Amador is young, he’ll look to help this franchise get on a hot streak once again. If he finds success at the major league level, expect the Rockies to do whatever it takes to keep him in Colorado.

Top Rockies Prospect Adael Amador Will Make MLB Debut Today
During the 2024 season, Amador has played in 46 games and had 170 at-bats with the Yard Goats. He’s recorded 33 hits, seven home runs, 22 steals, and 24 runs batted in. While he’s put up a .194 batting average, the 21-year-old has an OPS of .666. For the Rockies’ offensive game plan, it would be key for Amador to immediately get on base and break away with a steal. With 22 stolen bases in Double-A, he was only caught stealing three times. Colorado needs someone like their top prospect as a threat on the base paths. In the month of May, Amador recorded four home runs, 14 runs batted in, and nine steals.
Colorado is giving another one of their young prospects a taste of what it’s like in the majors. Ultimately, this may come to help or hurt the team. Hopefully, in Amador’s case, he breaks out and becomes a much-needed asset for the Rockies future. It would be huge for this franchise to win at unbelievable measures again with their top prospect in the lineup. Amador will likely land himself a big payday just like Ezequiel Tovar if he succeeds in his debut and beyond.
