Injuries have been the name of the game this season in Queens, as if that needs any more mention. The latest episode of the disabled list stint series is scarier than usual. The New York Mets sent Brandon Nimmo to the DL with a partially collapsed lung.

Brandon Nimmo Heads to DL with Collapsed Lung

Having just recently broken into the major league level, outfielder Brandon Nimmo was hitting .350 through 15 games. He was called up on June 16 as a corresponding move to Juan Lagares and Matt Harvey being sent to the disabled list.

Nimmo, just 24, was taken to a hospital on Friday to be treated. He was released Friday night and was told this is not life threatening, according to the New York Daily News. In response to the sudden mishap, the New York Mets will activate Michael Conforto from his own stay on the Disabled List with a left-hand contusion.

Terry says it’s not as serious as it sounds, and Nimmo should be fine. They’re not sure how it happened.

Once the opportunity presented itself this season, Nimmo took advantage. The former first-rounder out of East High School in Cheyenne, Wyoming went 3-for-4 in his last game on July 4. Nimmo has played 12 chances for 11 put-outs, one assist and no errors on defense in center field with his above-average speed.

New York has struggled mightily this season, with Conforto’s emergence and all-star nod seemingly being the only bight spot of 2017. The Mets are currently 39-45 and rank 23rd in the league in starter ERA. The team sits third in the National League East at 11 games back.

Nimmo was just beginning to show himself as a comfortable option to write in on the lineup with constant ailments surrounding the log-jam of outfielders. Yoenis Cespedes, Curtis Granderson, Jay Bruce and Conforto are all battling for at-bats and against injuries. Cespedes has played in just 40 games so far.
