Spencer’s Best Bets for Baseball: July 29th

What a day for the Best Bets series. Our second full-slate sweep of the series, without any sweat required. Zack Wheeler and Kevin Gausman both had excellent outings. Striking out eleven and nine respectively. The Philadelphia Phillies hang on to a late lead provided by a Kyle Schwarber two-run homer and brought this play home. The red-hot Boston Red Sox jumped on our special boy, Logan Webb, early and often. Carrying a 2-0 lead into the top of the sixth, for a sweat-free win.

On to Today’s Best Bets!

Mariners @ Diamondbacks, 8:10 PM EST

For our first play of the day we head to the desert for a clash between two rookie pitchers. Bryan Woo represents the visiting Seattle Mariners, and Brandon Pfaadt leads the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Mariners claimed the edge in starting pitching as Pfaadt has struggled so far in his first season in the bigs. Amassing an 8.81 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, and allowing 42 hits through 32 2/3 innings. Additionally, the Mariners have found something on offense in the past few weeks, averaging 7.33 runs over their past three games. In the month of July, they have also been stellar on the road, winning eight of eleven.

The Pick: Seattle Mariners F5 ML (-118) 1U

Reds @ Dodgers, 9:10 PM EST

In today’s second game, we travel to the golden coast, where the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Cincinnati Reds. Our second pick is much less about the teams involved and much more about the pitching. Luke Weaver has struggled to find form in his 5th year as a major leaguer. Allowing three or more runs in nine of his last ten outings. This has resulted in a 7.20 ERA and a 2-2 record. I like this trend to continue today against a Dodgers’ offense that has the ability to crush opposing pitching. This, coupled with Weavers abysmal adjusted strikeout rate of 16.9%, I predict he gets touched up early and pulled.

The Pick: Luke Weaver Under 3.5 Ks (+102) 1U

Pick 2: Max Muncy 1+ RBI (+125) 0.25U

Additional Best Bets

Adam Wainwright Over 1.5 Walks (-104) 0.5U

Pete Alonso 1+ RBI (+110) 0.25U
