The Cincinnati Reds have traded right-hander Sonny Gray to the Minnesota Twins, per Ken Rosenthal. As part of the trade, minor league right-hander Francis Peguero was also included as part of the deal. In return, the Twins have sent Chase Petty to Cincinnati. Petty was the 26th overall pick in the 2021 Draft and recently ranked as the seventh-best pitching prospect in the Twins organization. On the other end, Gray will be a free agent after the upcoming season, his tenth in the big leagues. He will receive just over $10 million and holds a $12 million option for the 2023 season.

Sonny Gray MLB Career
In 2008, the Chicago Cubs selected Sonny Gray in the 27th round of the MLB Draft. He did not sign, however, choosing to attend Vanderbilt University. In 2011, the Oakland Athletics took him 18th overall. Oakland gave Gray a contract, signing a $1.54 million bonus. By the time 2013 dawned, Gray was in the big leagues. He was impressed, going 5-3 with a 2.67 ERA. In 2015, he made his first All-Star appearance, winning 14 contests with an ERA just over 2.60. Overall, he won 44 games in Oakland, with a 3.42 ERA and a 114 ERA+. He struck out 607 batters and only walked 225 in 707 pitched with a 3.56 FIP and a 1.200 WHIP. Midway through 2017, the New York Yankees traded for him.
In a year and a half with New York, Gray went 15-16 with a 4.51 ERA and a 96 ERA+. He also posted a FIP of 4.40 and a WHIP of 1.416. In the 2018 offseason, the Reds traded for Gray. His presence in the rotation paid immediate dividends, as he made his second All-Star Game. He went 11-8 with a 2.87 ERA in 2019 and followed that up with two more respectable seasons as a Red. Overall, he went 23-20 in three seasons with Cincinnati, posting a 3.49 ERA, a 3.57 FIP, and a 1.154 WHIP.
