Rangers 8, Astros 1
ARLINGTON, Texas, Sept. 14 — The Texas Rangers got the chance to taste sweet redemption on Tuesday night at Globe Life Field. One night after they suffered a 15-1 loss to the Houston Astros, they were able to put together a well-deserved victory against them. The final score on Tuesday was 8-1. This win provided some much-needed momentum for the Texas Rangers. Time will tell if it will be put to good use in the third game of this four-game set on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, here is a recap of Tuesday’s win.
Lyles Stretches Out
Right-hander Jordan Lyles started for Texas in this one. From the final outcome, you could determine that Lyles needed this start to benefit his mental-makeup. He did quite well, scattering three hits and one walk across seven innings. Lyles also struck out seven in a dominant performance. His effort was more than enough for him to earn his ninth win of the season. He is now 9-11 on the year. Righty Josh Sborz gave up Houston’s only run. It was on a Carlos Correa single that scored Jose Altuve in the top of the ninth.
Zack Greinke started for Houston. His evening didn’t go as well. Greinke took the loss and dropped to 11-6 on the season. He pitched five innings, giving up all eight of the Rangers’ runs. Seven of them were earned. He walked three, struck out four, and gave up four home runs.
Big Night for Adolis
The night started with Nathaniel Lowe’s 15th home run of the year in the bottom of the first. It was a two-run that brought home Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Then in the bottom of the third inning, Adolis Garcia hit his 30th home run of the year, giving the Rangers a 4-0 lead. Once again, Kiner-Falefa was the man on base. Garcia now has seven homers against Houston this year. He has more home runs against Houston than any Ranger in history. Adrian Beltre and Rougned Odor each had six during their tenures in Arlington. From there, the score wouldn’t change until the bottom of the sixth. Garcia scored the fifth run for Texas. It came on a single by Nick Solak. Moments later, DJ Peters stepped up to the plate. He hit a three-run shot to centerfield. This scored Lowe and Solak.
Up Next for Rangers/Astros
As stated earlier, the Texas Rangers got some much-needed momentum from this win. They’re hopeful that more good fortune will come in the third game of this set with Houston. That game will be on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT. Jose Urquidy will start for Houston (6-3, 3.51 ERA), and Kohei Arihara (2-3, 5.89 ERA) will start for the Texas Rangers.
