Texas Rangers Lose Second Straight to Mariners

Mariners 3, Rangers 1

ARLINGTON, Texas, August 18 – On Wednesday night in Arlington, the struggle continued for the Texas Rangers. They lost their second straight game to the Seattle Mariners. In 2021, the Rangers have had their share of difficulty with Seattle. So far this season, their record against the Mariners is 6-12. Thursday afternoon marks the final time that these two teams will meet this year. The Rangers need everything to go right in order to get that final win. Here is a recap of Wednesday night’s game.

Different Night, Same Story

The first two games of this series have had one thing in common. They both ended with a final score of 3-1 in favor of the Mariners. Much like the previous night, Seattle struck first early on. In the top of the first inning, Kyle Seager hit his 27th home run of the year. It came with a man on, in the person of Mitch Haniger, to make it 2-0. It would stay that way until the bottom of the seventh inning. Jose Trevino hit a sharp double off Seattle righty Erik Swanson to right field. That would score Andy Ibanez. The last of the Mariners’ offense came in the top of the 8th inning. J.P. Crawford hit a sacrifice fly to right field. Jarred Kelenic scored from third on the fly ball.

Quality for Folty

Even though things didn’t tilt in the Rangers’ direction, something good came out of it. Right-hander Mike Foltynewicz had a quality start for his team. He pitched six innings and gave up two earned runs. He walked two, struck out five, and gave up one home run. Despite his effort, he took the loss, bringing his record on the season to 2-12. Lefty Marco Gonzalez got the win for the Mariners. He tossed five and a third innings and allowed six hits. He walked one and struck out three. Right-hander Drew Steckenrider got the save for Seattle. It was his fifth on the year.
