Diamondbacks 3, Rangers 2
ARLINGTON, Texas, July 28 – The Texas Rangers had to settle for a split against the Arizona Diamondbacks. They would go on to lose their series finale by a final score of 3-2. This marks the 13th loss in their last 14 games. The Rangers showed signs of life at certain points, but were unable to build on their victory from Tuesday night.
Close but No Cigar
The Rangers only managed to push across two runs. Their first came on a Nate Lowe single to left field, scoring Adolis Garcia. Later in the inning, Charlie Culberson hit a sac-fly to left that scored Lowe. This was the aforementioned sign of life. It looked as though the Rangers were going to pile on more.
It was not to be, however. As for the Diamondbacks, they scored rather quickly. David Peralta got it started with a solo home run, his fifth, to center field. In the top of the seventh inning, Andrew Young hit a sac-fly to center. This allowed Josh VanMeter to score. They would score their second run in the top of the 8th. They did it on a solo shot hit by Daulton Varsho, his fifth, to right field.
Pitching Notes
Rangers starter Jordan Lyles did not factor in the decision after allowing two runs. Both of them were earned in his seven innings. It marked his sixth quality start of the season. He walked two, and struck out six.
For Arizona, Madison Bumgarner was the winner. He logged seven inning. During that stretch, he allowed two earned runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked one. With the win, his record now stands at 4-6. Tyler Clippard got his third save of 2021, despite looking a little shaky. He gave up one hit, and walked one. He managed to strike out two to finish his outing without allowing a run.
