Chuck Morgan’s 3,000th Game

Chuck Morgan

“It’s Baseball Time in Texas”.  If you’re a Texas Rangers fan, even a casual one, then chances are you have heard these words a good number of times. Those five words make up the iconic trademark catchphrase of longtime Public Address Announcer Chuck Morgan. Even though fans cannot gather at Globe Life Field, they are still anticipating a huge milestone for the ageless Morgan. This Saturday’s game against the Houston Astros will mark Chuck Morgan’s 3,000th consecutive game in the PA booth for his beloved Rangers. Not even a global pandemic could stop him. Here is a look at some of the things that he has seen over the years.

Historical Milestones

On July 30, 2017, when third baseman Adrian Beltre doubled against the Baltimore Orioles for his 3,000th career hit, Morgan was there. When left-hander Kenny Rogers pitched a perfect game against the then California Angels, Morgan was there. He was also in the booth for Nolan Ryan’s 5,000th career strikeout, and when Ivan Rodriguez passed Carlton Fisk in the record books as the leader for All-time Games Caught.  If and when something great happened on the field over the last 40 years and counting, Chuck Morgan has had a front-row seat. He hasn’t just announced each and every one of the players’ names, he has become synonymous with Rangers baseball itself.

No Signs of Slowing Down

3,000 games is a big number. In all that time, Chuck Morgan has never called in sick. A lot of us can’t even go 30 days without something feeling off. Not Morgan, though. He’s human, and it’s a pretty safe bet that he has had his share of days where he hasn’t felt 100 percent, but he has never allowed that to stop him. Whenever the Rangers have a home game, he is there. Whether it is calling the starting lineups, coaching staff, or pitching changes, here is there. It is simply amazing.

Not Just a Public Address Announcer

Morgan also serves as the Vice President of Ballpark Entertainment. That’s quite a job title. This means he is responsible for coming up with new and creative ways to keep the fans engaged at all times. From the music that they hear over the loudspeaker to the graphics on the scoreboard and video boards. If fans are on their feet, Chuck Morgan has had a hand in it. He is the mastermind behind the ever-popular Dot Race, where fans watch people dressed in colored dot costumes and race in the middle of the sixth inning. Fans have always enjoyed it.

A Real People Person

Chuck Morgan has never been shy around his audience. He not only keeps them involved in each game, but he also interacts with them when he is not behind the microphone. Going forward, however, he will be able to do both. His brand new sound booth is located on the main concourse behind home plate at his new home, Globe Life Field. It has windows so people will be able to look in and see the master at work. They’ll most likely be able to do this starting in 2021.

Chuck Morgan really loves what he does, and he is quite good at it. Fans hope that they’ll be able to hear his voice for years to come.
