Cleveland Indians Provide Update on Terry Francona
Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona has already missed 17 games so far this season. On Monday, the organization announced that Francona is going to remain sidelined for a bit longer. Mandy Bell, who covers the team for MLB.com, was the first with the news on Twitter.

Francona has been sidelined as he deals with a procedure for a gastrointestinal issue. This is something that has plagued the 61-year old manager since last season. Additionally, this is the second procedure that Francona has had performed for this same issue this month alone. The last time he was manager for this year’s team was during a five-game stretch against the Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers from August 11 until August 16.
For now, the team will look to Sandy Alomar as the leader at the helm. Alomar currently has a 9-5 record on the year and has been a member of the team’s coaching staff since 2013. As a potential future skipper, this experience is invaluable for the 54-year old.

During Monday’s game against the Minnesota Twins, Indians second baseman and leadoff hitter Cesar Hernandez made some history. Mandy Bell had this nugget below via her Twitter account.

On the year, Hernandez has been one of the team’s more productive hitters. At the conclusion of play Monday, Hernandez is batting .281/.364/.430 over 28 games or 114 at bats. During that span, he has recorded 32 hits, which leads the team, 11 doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI, 14 walks, and 29 strikeouts.

León was acquired by the Indians from the Boston Red Sox via trade this past offseason. He was vital for the team while Roberto Perez was on the injured list dealing with a right shoulder strain. Now that Perez and León are back in action, the Indians have a good catching duo behind the dish.
Meanwhile, left-hander Logan Allen was sent to the team’s alternate camp in Lake County. Allen pitched in two games this season as part of the big league squad. Over those two games, he recorded a 4.70 ERA with four earned runs, six walks, and three strikeouts.
