From the start of batting practice to the fifth inning Monday night, the New York Mets suffered injuries to three of their starting players. Jeff McNeil was a late scratch with back tightness that he sustained in batting practice. Amed Rosario then left the game with left quad tightness, and Robinson Cano came out after left groin stiffness.
Jeff McNeil
McNeil was scheduled to make his first start in left field Monday night. Minutes before first pitch, the Mets announced that J.D. Davis, who was dealing with a stomach bug earlier in the day, would get the start and be the DH after McNeil was scratched.
Dominic Smith, who was supposed to start as the DH was moved to left field. McNeil had been red-hot at the plate with a .343 batting average.
Amed Rosario
Rosario led off the third inning on Monday against the Braves with a single. He then advanced to third after Marcell Ozuna misplayed the ball in left field. Rosario then came around to score and batted again later in the inning. After grounding out to third, he limped his way to first base, and Luis Guillorme came in to replace him.
Rosario is batting .244 with one home run and four RBI’s in 11 games this year.
Robinson Cano
Lastly, Cano came out of the game in the fifth inning after two hits and three RBI’s. Cano was on the injured list three times last season with the same injury he suffered Monday night. Similar to McNeil, Cano had been red-hot and was batting .412 after starting the season off 1-12.
It's hot in Atlanta. Luis Rojas referenced the weather as a possible factor in the injuries for Jeff McNeil, Amed Rosario and Robinson Canó. (It's easy to get dehydrated in those conditions.)

Infield Replacements
If any of these injuries end up being serious, the Mets have some depth in the infield. Even with Eduardo Nunez already on the injured list, the Mets have Andres Gimenez, Brian Dozier, and Guillorme on the active roster. New York also has Max Moroff on the taxi squad.
The New York Mets will head to face the Washington Nationals for the start of a two-game series Tuesday night. The Mets had previously lost five straight games but ended that streak after a win on Monday. New York, though, will be facing Patrick Corbin and Max Scherzer in the two-game series.
