The Miami Marlins have acquired first baseman Lewin Diaz from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for pitcher Sergio Romo. Diaz was signed by the Twins in 2013 as an undrafted amateur free agent.

Lewin Diaz: Miami Marlins’ Newest Prospect
Diaz is a 22-year-old left-handed hitter known for his great glove and his power. He was 17 years old when he made his debut with the Twins in the Dominican Summer League. Diaz batted .257 with five home runs and 27 RBI.
In 2015 Diaz played for both Twins teams in the rookie leagues and hit a combined .233 with four home runs and 20 RBI. In 2016 Diaz spent the entire season playing for the Elizabethton Twins which is the higher of the two Rookie League teams. During the season Diaz started to establish himself batting .310 with nine home runs and 37 RBI.
In 2017 Diaz got promoted to single-A Cedar Rapids where he batted .292 with twelve home runs and 68 RBI. In 2018 Diaz once again was promoted to single-A advanced Fort Myers. Diaz missed six weeks with a thumb injury and only batted .224 with six HR and 35 RBI.
This season Diaz was completely healthy and he batted .290 with 13 HR and 36 RBI for Fort Myers. He was promoted to double-A Pensacola where he continued to hit. Diaz batted .309 with six HR and 25 RBI.
Diaz batted .273 with 55 HR and 248 RBI in his six-year minor league career with the Twins. He was voted to the Mid Season All-Star team three straight seasons starting in 2017 when he was playing for Single-A Cedar Rapids. The other two were when he played at single-A advanced Fort Myers. In addition, he was a Post Season All-Star in 2016 when he played in the Rookie League with Elizabethton.
Diaz just had to switch clubhouses as his former team the Pensacola Twins is playing his new team the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
