The Minnesota Twins have acquired relief pitcher Sergio Romo from the Miami Marlins for prospects Lewin Diaz and Chris Vallimont. Jeff Passan was the first to break the news. Romo has pitched to a 2-0 record and a 3.58 ERA in 2019.

Minnesota Twins Acquire Sergio Romo from Miami Marlins
Romo, out of Mesa State, is a 12-year MLB veteran. He was selected in the 28th round (852nd overall) in the 2005 MLB draft. Although Romo only played collegiate baseball at the Division II level and was a late round pick, he has carved up quite the career.
Maybe the most remarkable stat that Romo possesses is his ERA. The crafty reliever has only had an ERA of 4+ once in his career — that came in 2018 with the Tampa Bay Rays — where he pitched to a 4.14 ERA. Two of his best ERA seasons came in 2011 (1.50) and 2012 (1.79).
Once former Giants closer Brian Wilson had Tommy John surgery in 2012, Romo took over the closing duties. He was just as impressive in this role, posting 14 saves in 15 opportunities. Romo continued in the closer role the very next season. He would resume the same dominance, recording 38 saves in 43 situations — resulting in a save percentage of 88.4%. He also saved 23 games in the 2014 season.
Romo was a big part in the Giants postseason success in 2010, 2012, and 2014. As a result, he helped bring the City of San Francisco three World Series titles. In his postseason career, he holds a 3-1 record, accompanied by an impressive 3.09 ERA and four saves in 23.1 innings pitched. In the 2012 postseason, Romo did not allow a hit in three games, and also picked up the save in each appearance. On top of that, he pitched the final inning of a decisive game four against the Detroit Tigers. He would go on to retire Miguel Cabrera for the final out, giving the Giants their second World Series in the last three years.
