The power-hitting outfielder played 132 games for the Mets last year, hitting .280 with 31 home runs and driving in 86 runs. In 2016, Cespedes was an All-Star for the Mets and also won the Silver Slugger award and finished eighth in MVP voting for the National League.
Cespedes, who first rose to fame with the Oakland Athletics, has established himself as one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball. In his five years in Major League Baseball, Cespedes has hit .272, with 137 home runs and 453 RBIs. He has also slashed a fantastic .325/.494/.819 in his career. In 2014, Cespedes won the Home Run Derby for the second year in a row, and became the first player to do so since Ken Griffey Jr. in 1999.
He also features one of the most powerful outfield arms around. Though he isn’t the greatest all-around fielder, he poses a significant threat to any would-be base-stealer. Over his short career thus far, he has already recorded 57 assists from the outfield. He led the league with 16 in 2014, and already ranks in the top-25 in outfield assists among active players, despite his limited experience relative to some of the other active leaders.
The Mets will look for Cespedes to be a key part of their line-up in 2017 and beyond, as they try to reclaim the NL East from the Washington Nationals.
