According to multiple reports, Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano has been suspended 80 games after testing positive for a banned substance. ESPN has reported that Cano tested positive for Furosemide, which is a diuretic.

Injury

Robinson Cano had recently been injured after getting hit by a pitch during Sunday’s game again the Detroit Tigers. Cano was hit on the right hand by Blaine Hardy, and fractured his fifth metacarpal. Following the injury, Cano was placed on the disabled list and was scheduled to go to Philadelphia to see a specialist.

Career

Robinson Cano has had what many claim to be a Hall of Fame career. He made his major league debut with the New York Yankees on May 3, 2005, when he was 22-years old. In his rookie year, Cano would hit .297 with 14 home runs and 62 RBI. He would also finish second in Rookie of the Year voting behind Huston Street. Cano would go on to play in the Bronx for another eight seasons, becoming a five-time All-Star and would be a part of the 2009 World Series champion New York Yankees.

In 2013, Cano would sign a 10-year deal with the Mariners worth $240 million. Cano was reportedly offered a seven-year, $175 million contract to return to the Yankees, but turned it down in favor of the longer and more profitable contract in Seattle. In his five years with the Mariners, Cano has been a three-time All-Star with a .294 batting average, 101 home runs and 384 RBI.
