Philadelphia Phillies Rumors Take a Drastic Turn with This All-Star Pitcher

The Philadelphia Phillies rumors are not stopping anytime soon, at least not until the trade deadline. The Phillies are already linked to several candidates. At the same time, some players, such as Tarik Skubal, might seem unrealistic. Yet there’s no denying that Dave Dombrowski will consider every available option.

Philadelphia Phillies Rumors Take a Drastic Turn with This All-Star Pitcher

Team USA Adds Royals Pitcher Michael Wacha to 2026 World Baseball ...

Philadelphia has a number of top prospects on the team that they might consider trading. At present, their goal is to go beyond the playoffs and win the World Series. A disastrous start to the season proved that they are not a threat anymore in the NL East.

The Atlanta Braves are a tough opponent, and the Phillies are still 1.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs for the top Wild Card spot. Interim manager Don Mattingly will push his team to the playoffs for sure. However, it’s the missing pieces that they must address before October.

Pitching has been an issue for the Phillies this season. Aaron Nola is not the same guy he once was, with a poor 5.75 ERA and 3-6 record. Cristopher Sanchez has excelled throughout this season, posting a stellar 2.62 ERA. Zack Wheeler continues to dominate with his veteran presence, while Jesus Luzardo has shown consistency. Nola is the struggling one, and there’s still room for another arm to bolster their rotation in October.

Phillies Rumors Turn Toward Michael Wacha

Having just four pitchers on the team’s depth chart is certainly not enough. Mattingly is aware of this, and so is Dombrowski. The club is expected to be buyers before the trade deadline. That said, the latest Phillies rumors are turning towards Michael Wacha.

Trading for Wacha would be a benefit. The Kansas City Royals star tossed a scoreless inning in the 2026 All-Star Game that cannot go unnoticed. Wacha has a 5-7 record with a 3.77 ERA. While he might not be the ideal candidate, if paired with the right pitchers, Wacha might be the perfect fit in Philly.

Frank Martin of the Delaware News Journal writes that Wacha could be the fourth starter for the Phillies behind Cristopher Sanchez and Jesus Luzardo.

“As a fourth starter, Wacha could push Aaron Nola to the No. 5 slot and deepen the rotation. In the postseason, the Phillies wouldn’t need a fourth starter until the NLCS … if they get that far,” Marin wrote.

Nola can be the fifth man for the Phillies, considering his massive 7-year, $172 million contract runs through 2030. It’s hard for the franchise to part ways with Nola at the moment. Moreover, they need a fifth starter for their rotation. It’s not too late for Nola, as he can turn things around in the second half. Wacha seems to be a decent option to consider for now.

Will the Royals Trade Michael Wacha to the Phillies?

Despite the Phillies’ rumors swirling around Michael Wacha, it’s hard for the Royals to give up one of their valuable pitchers easily. Wacha is under club control through the 2028 season, and the club has no intention of trading him. However, it’s worth noting that they are reportedly listening to offers.

The Royals are having a disastrous season, sitting at the bottom of the AL Central. The playoffs look out of reach, but Wacha is a top pitcher in their rotation. The Phillies will need to offer something huge in return. The Royals have nothing to lose, but a few top prospects will certainly help the team in the future.

They need to change things up for a better season next year. The Phillies might need to offer the Royals exactly what they want to bring in Wacha. While these are still rumors, a trade between the two teams is possible.
