The Phillies make this trade as a result of looking to add stability to the center field position. Rookie Justin Crawford has struggled, and the team has made various moves to add to the position, including calling up Steward Berroa. Furthermore, outfielder Adolis Garcia was injured on Wednesday, and the timetable for his return is not yet known.
Hill’s Season So Far
Hill has been having a rough season with the White Sox. He is batting just .213 with four home runs and eight RBI. Despite the White Sox playing competitive baseball this season, Hill has not made too much of a difference with the bat.
However, Hill does excel with his glove. He is a defensive-minded player, using his speed to get to balls quickly. Furthermore, he can play all outfielder positions, although his primary position is center field.

For the Phillies, Hill should provide strong defense at worst. He can help hold the fort down until a better offensive option emerges. However, if the remainder of the lineup can produce, Hill could remain in as a pure defensive asset. That answer will come later, though.
White Sox Add Low-Level Prospects in the Trade
The White Sox are not adding any big-name prospects. Campbell is only hitting .216 right now at Double A, while Colmenares is hitting .278 in High A. However, there is hope that a change of scenery could help either or both players. Given what they gave up, this was a reasonable return. Low risk, but a high reward.
Not the Biggest Trade…
This trade will certainly not take up much time on MLB Network, but it is a reminder that we are approaching the trade deadline season. Bigger trades will be here before we know it. Last Word On Baseball will be here to cover it!
