A.J. Minter Return Timeline Revealed, Other Mets Injury Updates

As the New York Mets’ losing ways continue after being swept out of Miami by the Marlins and dropping their series opener to the Cincinnati Reds at Citi Field, worsening their season record to 22-32, last in the National League East, reinforcements are on the way. Before Monday’s game, manager Carlos Mendoza gave updates regarding each of the key players currently still on the injured list. These Mets injury updates are as follows.

Minter Return Timeline Revealed

Veteran left-hander A.J. Minter could be reinstated off the IL as soon as Tuesday or the following day on Wednesday, but that’s only if everything goes well in his throwing progression on Monday. Minter was slated to return from his rehab assignment back in early May, but discomfort in his hip delayed his return. While neither Minter nor the Mets were too concerned about the severity of his hip issue, it forced the club to pull him off his initial assignment and reset his rehab clock.

Minter missed almost the entirety of last season after he underwent surgery to repair his left lat muscle in May 2025. Minter, 32, signed with a two-year, $22 million deal with the Mets ahead of the ’25 season after eight seasons with the Atlanta Braves. He had the choice to opt out of his contract and become a free agent in the offseason, but chose to opt in instead and stay with New York.

Other Mets Injury Updates

Francisco Lindor, who is on the IL with left calf tightness, has started running and doing baseball activities. Juan Soto experienced the same calf injury earlier this year, but recovered much quicker than Lindor has. Mendoza noted that the shortstop still has several milestones to check off before he can return to the lineup, one which has struggled virtually the entire season up to this point and has been one of the worst in all of MLB.

Mendoza could not give a concrete update on Luis Robert Jr, who is still in the training room and “not doing much.” Meanwhile, Jorge Polanco — down in Port St. Lucie — has been taking at-bats and will go through a full workout on Monday with the Mets aiming for him to begin a rehab assignment this week.

Left-handed hitter Jared Young, who made his mark in limited opportunity at the start of the year both offensively and defensively, is set to return after his rehab assignment in the minors, and there’s a good chance, according to Mendoza, that he will be activated off the IL on Tuesday, likely replacing MJ Melendez, who has struggled in limited chances the past two weeks.

Already resuming baseball activities less than two weeks after undergoing surgery (torn right meniscus), Francisco Alvarez is nearing a return faster than anyone had anticipated or expected. The timeline for a return for that type of injury is typically six to eight weeks, yet the catcher is already weeks ahead of that timetable.

Capping off the list of Mets injury updates is a pitcher who many may have forgotten about, and understandably so. Kodai Senga is nearing his own return from lumbar spine inflammation. The 33-year-old is set to throw a bullpen session today after making his first rehab start on Friday for St. Lucie. Senga is scheduled to continue his rehab assignment on Thursday, either with Double-A Binghamton or Triple-A Syracuse.
