Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow delivers a pitch at Oracle Park.

Dodgers Starter Will Not Be Ready Soon

The Los Angeles Dodgers provided an update today on Tyler Glasnow, and it is an interesting one, to say the least. The right-handed starting pitcher has been on the injured list with back spasms for a week. Manager Dave Roberts said that Glasnow has resumed playing catch, but he didn’t know when Glasnow would start throwing off the mound, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

Still No Timeline for Return of Tyler Glasnow

The Injury

Glasnow had to come out of the game before the bottom of the second inning in Houston last week. His back tightened up on him as he was throwing his warm-up pitches. Glasnow said after the game that he had experienced that before, as far back as high school. He expressed frustration about its cause, saying that he doesn’t know if it’s a function “of being tall.”

Losing an Ace

The injury occurred shortly after the right-hander recorded his 1,000th career strikeout. Glasnow has been solid so far on the mound this season, part of a pitching staff that has propelled the Dodgers to a fast start. He has a 3-0 record with an ERA of 2.72. In addition, he has 49 strikeouts in just 39 2/3 innings. He was so effective in the last half of 2025 that Los Angeles put him in the bullpen in the postseason for the first time in his career.

Changing Timelines

Originally, the Dodgers were optimistic that they caught the injury early and that Glasnow would only miss minimal time. However, one of the boxes that needs to be checked off is throwing off the mound. It hasn’t happened yet. The team has declined to say if the injury is worse. More than likely, they are saving his arm for more high-leverage games later in the season because the right-hander has a significant injury history.

The Replacement

For now, Blake Snell will take Glasnow’s spot in the rotation. The two-time Cy Young Award Winner had been sidelined since spring training with shoulder fatigue. Snell came off the IL earlier than expected, and the rust showed as the veteran got knocked around a bit in his season debut. Glasnow’s absence will test the depth of the Dodgers’ rotation.

The long and short of it is this: The Dodgers are doing everything they can to be healthy in October, even in the middle of May.
