On Monday, the Kansas City Royals and the Oakland Athletics engaged in a trade that could impact the future of the Royals organization. The Royals traded Ryan Buchter and Brandon Moss to the Athletics in exchange for Jesse Hahn and minor-leaguer Heath Fillmyer.

Royals beat writer Jeffrey Flanagan hinted at the fact the reasoning of this trade is to clear some payroll to sign a free-agent, that free-agent first baseman would be Eric Hosmer.
Kansas City Royals Trade Brandon Moss to Oakland Athletics
Moss made his debut with the Boston Red Sox on August 6, 2007.
The left-handed hitter will be making his return to Oakland, Moss last played for the Athletics through the 2012-2014 seasons. Moss has played with the Red Sox (2007-2008), Pittsburgh Pirates (2008-2010), Philladelphia Phillies (2011), Athletics (2012-2014), Cleveland Indians (2015), St. Louis Cardinals (2015-2016), and lastly playing with the Kansas City Royals (2017).

The former Royal has spent 11 seasons in the majors so far. During his time in the majors, Buchter has a record of 8-3, has pitched 129.1 innings, has an ERA of 2.85, has earned two saves, and has struck out 144 batters. Lastly, Buchter has a WAR of 2.7 in his career.
Jesse Hahn will be heading to Kansas City and has played in four major league seasons, three with the Oakland Athletics and one season with the San Diego Padres. He made his MLB debut on June 3, 2014, with the Padres. Hahn has appeared in 53 games (50 starts) and has a record of 18-20. The right-hander has an ERA of 4.19 and has logged 286.0 innings pitched. The former Oakland pitcher has struck out 212 batters and has a WAR of 1.7.
Heath Fillmyer was drafted in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft. The minor league pitcher has only made it to Double-A so far in his baseball career. Fillmyer, 23, has spent four seasons in the Athletics organization. The right-handed hurler has started in 75 games and made 84 appearances. He has a record of 22-24, an ERA of 3.78, has thrown one complete game (a shutout), has thrown 392.2 innings, has walked 151 and struck out 320 batters.
