About Cabrera

Cabrera comes to the Cubs with three more years of control. Cabrera delivered a breakout performance for the Miami Marlins, achieving career highs in several key categories. Over 137.2 innings pitched across 26 starts, he posted an 8-7 record with a 3.53 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP.

His dominant stuff was on full display as he racked up 150 strikeouts, supported by an elite pitch mix featuring a changeup that famously touched 97.6 mph — one of the hardest recorded in the pitch-tracking era. Perhaps most importantly for his development, Cabrera made significant strides in his command; he reduced his walk rate to a career-low 8.3% (roughly 3.1 BB/9), a dramatic improvement from his previous seasons where control issues often hindered his high-ceiling potential.

Cabrera’s Injury History

Despite his on-field success, Cabrera’s 2025 campaign was punctuated by several stints on the injured list. For instance, his season was delayed initially due to a right middle finger blister during Spring Training. This has been a persistent issue that has plagued him since 2021. Later in the year, he also dealt with a right elbow injury in July that sidelined him briefly. This was subsequently followed by a more serious right elbow sprain on September 1st that cost him most of the final month.

Looking back historically, Cabrera has struggled to maintain durability. Previous years have been marred by right shoulder impingement in 2023 and 2024, elbow tendonitis in 2022, and various lower-body issues like ankle and toe sprains. Ultimately his injury history remains a concern and will until he proves it’s not an issue.
