The Yankees have placed OF Trent Grisham on the 10-day IL with a right hamstring strain, the Yankees announced on Saturday. To take his place on the roster, OF Jasson Domínguez has been recalled from his rehab assignment a few days early.
The Injury
Rounding first base in the Yankees’ 8-5 loss last night, Grisham felt tightness in his hamstring and was pulled from the game. He and manager Aaron Boone both iterated to the media after the game that the Yankees would evaluate how Grisham was feeling this morning before making an IL determination.

Grisham had a hamstring issue last season in Toronto that kept him out a few days but did not land him on the IL; this season it did. It could not come at a worse time for Grisham and the Yankees, as he’s been one of the hottest bats in the Yankees’ order as of late, one that is missing Aaron Judge for an extended period of time.
Domínguez Recalled
Toronto has turned into Area 51 with a Martian landing. Domínguez landed on the IL in early May after an ugly play in the outfield. Prior to that, Domínguez had looked solid from both sides of the plate, and he showed that off on his rehab assignment, hitting home runs from both sides of the plate during the span. With the amount of injuries to the Yankees’ outfield core, Domínguez will get a lot of playing time from both sides of the plate. Domínguez was once touted as one of the top prospects in baseball, and now he has an extended runway to show why he was regarded so highly and to truly reach his potential.
Domínguez was also tried out in right field on his rehab assignment to not disturb the gold glove defense of Cody Bellinger in left field, especially at Yankee Stadium. It will be interesting to see how Domínguez looks in right field and if he can be close to league average defensively.
