Marlins Top Prospect Continues To Shine In Recent Start

Despite the Miami Marlins’ woes up in the majors, there seems to be a bright young star prospect growing down in the minors, and his name is Noble Meyer. Meyer, 19, was drafted by the Marlins 10th overall in the 2023 draft. He is the Marlins #1 prospect and their only prospect to make the MLB’s top 100 list (no.50). His triumphs come at a perfect time, as the Marlins will soon need him up in the majors. They currently have four members of their rotation out due to injuries. Their aces, Sandy Alcántara and Eury Pérez are both out for the season with Tommy John surgery. Adding to this list are Braxton Garrett and Jesús Luzardo.  They both have injuries that could see them returning by June or earlier. The Fish could need a young arm for the rotation, and Meyers’ seems to be a perfect fit.

Marlins Prospect Noble Meyer Shines in Recent Start

Noble Meyer, has yet to step foot on a big league mound but his success in the minors shows it’s only a matter of time before he gets called up. The 19-year-old is currently playing in Single-A with the Jupiter Hammerheads. MLB’s Alyssa Gomez reports that in his last three starts, Meyers had described having problems with walks but was able to make up for it in his most recent start.

“I’ve been kind of struggling with walks in my recent outings and before I got drafted, that was never an issue,” Meyer said. “I kind of just had to remind myself like, ‘I’m not someone who walks a lot of people. I’m someone who competes and I kind of play with a chip on my shoulder.’ And I told myself I’m gonna strike everybody out and just brought that mentality on the mound and it just went as well as it possibly could.”

Meyer dominated his last outing on Saturday against the St. Lucie Mets. He went five innings with no earned runs, nine strikeouts, and two walks. Jupiter would go on to win 4-0. This comes days after he finished the month of April with 13 walks. This was six walks shy of the amount he had in his entire high school career. He was able to make changes and keep his walk count under control. So far this season, he has a 2-1 record with a 4.26 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched.

With the recent loss of their franchise player Luis Arráez via trade and their plethora of injuries, the one thing the Marlins need to fall back on is pitching. Alongside prospects like Roddery Muñoz, Max Meyer, and Thomas White, Meyer represents a young group of pitchers who could seriously get things going for the Marlins.
